What is ARNAP Prep?

A no-cost service helping Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN) meet the requirements to be certified as a Registered Nurse in Alberta. Our 8-week program will prepare you to write the Multiple-Choice Questions Exam and to challenge the Objective Structured Clinical Exam. The program was developed to replicate the structure and format of the ARNAP exams, to facilitate proficiency in exam taking skills.

Program Requirements

To register for the program, you must answer yes to the following questions:

Have you completed a nursing degree outside of Canada?

Have you completed an assessment with the

National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS)?

Have you received a letter from College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) recommending you complete ARNAP or bridging education?

If you answered no to any of these questions, please review the requirements with CARNA or visit our BredinWorks for Internationally Educated Professionals Program.

CARNA has a detailed process to ensure substantial equivalency for Internationally Educated Nurses. The ARNAP was developed by Touchstone Institute in collaboration with CARNA. It is a standardized exam which assesses the knowledge, skills and judgement of nurses educated outside of Canada.

Visit Touchstone Institute to learn more details about the exam, schedules and registration process.

Written Multiple Choice Exam

The MCQ exam consists of 97 questions designed to assess the professional competencies of personal responsibility and accountability, public service and self regulation.

Objective Structured Clinical Examination

The OSCE is a practical exam designed to assess knowledge based and ethical practice. Examinees complete up to 12 clinical encounter stations which represent common real life workplace encounters.

Bredin ARNAP Prep Program

The program is structured to prepare IEN’s to achieve successful exam outcomes through a comprehensive review of the 16 modules and mock exams which replicate the format of the actual examinations.
